Week of June 25th – Activities

We all had a fun time this weekend. Polo on friday, saturday morning, and again Sunday afternoon (we didn’t get rained one, well not much).  Lots of horseback riding, friends, learning, nice weather… that’s what summer means!

HUGE THANKS to Jeremy and Anne-Marie and Steve for the barbecue after — what a pleasant surprise!

This coming week we got, guess what, more of the same!!!  Here’s some early notice on some things to note in your calendar:

1) Phil, his friends and family will be in town to play on Sunday.

2) We’re going to move next Sunday’s chukkas earlier in the day so people have time to partake of the July 1st celebrations that evening. Let me know if a noon start time doesn’t work for you.

3) Now that summer is here, camp is starting.  That means on several weekday mornings, you can probably play and learn polo or work on your riding skills.  There’s nothing formal to arrange, just send me an email ( wyaternick at hotmail dot com) a day or two before.

And, way off in the distance, we’ve pencilled in Saturday September 8th for the “near the end of the year end club” club tournament. Of course all people should participate plus it’ll be a pot luck party.

This week, we’ll be planning beginner chukkas on Tuesday and Friday nites.  On Wednesday, we’ll have our usual club chukkas with mixed beginner and faster polo. Not sure what’s happening saturday — we’ll see where the crowd takes us.

Happy riding!

Polo Clinic – May 19 and May 20

Are you interested in trying out the sport of horse polo? Come join us at the “Average Joes” polo club here in Ottawa. This is a great way to learn the sport and see if you like it.

The clinic will be taught by Phil Van Der Burgt of the Cedar Valley Polo Club in Markham Ontario.

We will work on the riding, rules, game strategy, mallet and ball control, the line of the ball, positions, etc. For the more advanced players will work on neck and tail shots, controlling the ball and your horse at speed, fouls, and general game play.

The clinic will run for 2 days Saturday and Sunday May 19-20, 2012. The clinic is going to be limited to 10 players, the cost for the 2 days will be only $300. If you can only make one day, please come anyway — we’ll fit you in!

The schedule will run as follows:

Saturday May 19, 2012
10am Hand mallets and wooden horse
11am game play and line up rules and strategy
12pm lunch, class room rules of polo
2pm riding and Stick and Ball lesson
3:30pm break question and answer talk
4pm Coaching chukkas

Sunday May 20, 2012
10am riding and Stick and Ball lesson
12pm lunch, class room rules or polo
2pm Coaching chukkas

If you have any questions please contact Ward at wyaternick at hotmail.com. Horses not included in the $300 clinic fee unless you have made a prior arrangement. If you can only make one day, the fee is $150.
